Buckle Up
What do cars, roller coasters, and stairlifts all have in common? Seat belts are a key safety feature for all of them. One way to increase the safety of your stairlift is to make sure that you are using the seat belt that comes standard with most stair lifts. Seatbelts are a standard feature on all of the stairlifts that HomeLift sells.
Foot Rest
A good footrest is imperative to the stairlift safety and comfort, particularly if the footrest is adjustable. They make sure that your feet don’t drag while you’re using the stairlift, and once you get to your destination, being able to move the footrest out of the way is imperative so you don’t trip and fall, potentially resulting in injury. Our most popular stairlift, the Stannah 600 comes equipped with a power-folding footrest, which eliminates the need to bend down and manually move the footrest. The Handicare 1100 also comes with this feature. This ensures a safe departure from the stairlift, and reduces any tripping hazard related to the footrest.

Obstruction Alerts
One of the incredible things about modern technology is sometimes our machines can see things that we can’t. Having a stairlift that can sense when something is in the way of it’s track can be vital to ensuring the safety of the stairlift user. This is especially true for families that live in multigenerational houses, or just houses that see a lot of young children. Many stairlifts these day come equip with an obstruction sensor which can be critical for ensuring a smooth, safe stairlift ride. Our Stannah and Bruno stairlifts all come with obstruction alert systems to make your stairlift experience more safe.
Proper installation and Maintenance
If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time. Having a stairlift that is properly installed is arguably the most important thing you can do for stairlift safety. You want to ensure that the installation is done 100% properly for maximum safety and that they consider the structural integrity of your home before you make your purchase. You also want to keep up with a yearly maintenance schedule so that you can ensure it’s working at it’s optimal best and continues to do so for years to come.
